The Executive Committee was established to review the government's human resource development strategy, especially employment and training programs, and to undertake inter-departmental discussion as well as extensive consultation with the private sector on issues relating to employment and immigration policy. The Executive Committee meets frequently, establishes special committees, boards, and panels and organizes conferences such as the Advisory Committee on Training and Employment Opportunities in the Cultural Sector and the 1985 National Conference with the Cultural Sector.
This accession contains documents pertaining to the proceedings of the Executive Committee Meetings (1987-1990), the National Conference with the Cultural Sector (June 1985; May 1987), Managers' Workshops (1985-1987), Federal Provincial-Territorial Meetings of Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Working Groups (1983-1987), and Headquarters Executive Meetings (1987-1989). These bodies held discussions on human resource development issues and programs such as: Labour force development strategy, job creation, skill training, the establishment of training boards, employment equity, literacy, Unemployment Insurance benefits, the communication and exchange of labour market information between all levels of government and the private sector, PS 2000, the Aboriginal Employment and Training Work Group, the Self-Employment Initiative, new occupational classification systems such as the NOC and JOBSCAN.
These files include conference and meeting agendas, correspondence, speaking notes, research reports, policy papers, background documents, regular up-dates on policy issues and action plans.
