This is one of a series of radio programs about the history of Canadian radio in the 1920s and the 1930s, based on oral history interviews by Kenneth Bambrick of Canadian radio pioneers. The series explores major aspects of the development of the radio industry in Canada. This program looks at the history of government regulations in broadcasting. Excerpt from donor documentation: Because it makes use of the so-called "public airwaves" broadcasting throughout the world has always worked under government regulations. These change and grow as the medium develops, and over the course of time, sometimes takes on strange forms. Not too long ago, it was against the law to mention the price of a prodcut on Canadian radio, to have recorded music in the evening, and you had to tell your audience when you were playing pre-recorded material. Those rules are gone, but there are new ones, and a new body to enforce them, the Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission. This documentary features interviews of Jim Allard, Bill Speers, Walter Dales, Hugh Trueman, and Lyman Potts. <25mn 12>
