Record information – Details Fonds/collection:BROWN, Lyal D.Accession:1973-0079Media:SoundPart:4 of 4Release date:1966Production company:Canadian Broadcasting CorporationDescription:Radio documentary based on reports found in The Moosomin Courier. It was one of the first weekly newspapers published in western Canada. Radio broadcaster Lyal Brown was shown early copies of the newspaper in 1963 while he was collecting material for the radio series Assignment. In 1966 he returned to Moosomin with CBC Radio producer Tony Ross and obtained copies of the paper of 7 May 1885 and some other issues. Brown and Ross worked out an experimental radio program using the stories appearing in the paper -- profiles of General Middleton, Louis Riel and Gabriel Dumont, reports on battles in the Northwest Rebellion, a story on a British-Russian dispute over the Dardanelles, the threat to Khartoum by the Madhi, ads showing the prices of goods available to the settlers, gossip columns from smaller settlements in Assiniboia and an episode in a love story. <59mn 45s>Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
