This accession consists of ship registers created by the Canadian Coast Guard's Registrar of Shipping for Gaspé in the mid-1990s.

While covering a wide date range (1947-1997), these registers actually represent information taken from the original ship registers. In fact, the registers, known as blue ledger books, represent a hybrid form of recordkeeping, bridging the gap between the old original registers and a new electronic registry system. In some cases, especially with the very early dates, the registrar has indicated the exact page in the old original register books from which the information was taken. Each page in these newer registers is dated according to when a specific ship was first built, going forward in chronological order from earliest to most recent. One side of the registry page is laid out in a basic template box format, and then basic details (mostly typewritten, sometimes handwritten) about each ship is entered. These details include the ship's length, breadth, depth, and tonnage, as well as the place built, ship type, type of construction, etc. The verso side of the registry page has additional details, such as information about changes in registration over the years, changes to the ship, and in some cases, the date of decommission, and (as noted before) the location from which the information originally cameas well as a dated signature by the Registrar of ships.
