This sub-sub-series of correspondence contains files concerning the hiring of office staff for ministers in the Paul Martin government. Paul Martin's Chief of Staff, Tim Murphy, had to approve the appointment of ministerial exempt staff, such as chiefs of staff, directors of parliamentary affairs, senior policy advisors, directors of communication, and so on.

The files generally contain letters from ministers requesting approval to appoint an individual to a given position for a given salary. These documents are typically followed by a copy of Murphy's response in which he approves the appointment.
