This sub-sub-series contains correspondence exchanged with federal, provincial and municipal elected officials, Canadian and foreign dignitaries, and the general public. It covers a wide range of subjects, including global financial issues, the improvement of the state of public finances, Canada's debt, the new immigration regulations, job creation, the development of the tar sands, the privatization of the CN, old age pensions, transfers to the provinces, discrimination based on sexual orientation, Senate reform, the challenges facing Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Canadian Foundation for Innovation. The correspondence from 2002 consists almost exclusively of letters of encouragement from parliamentarians, foreign dignitaries and citizens following his departure from the Department of Finance in June 2002.

The files from 1993 to 1997 have been created and gathered by Karen Martin, special assistant of Finance Minister Paul Martin.
