Accession consists of records from Transport Canada's Transportation Development Centre (TDC), formerly located in Montreal, Quebec. Established in 1970, the TDC identifies, promotes and manages the application of science and technology toward a more efficient and effective transportation system.

Boxes 1-2 consist primarily of spiral-bound report books (mostly in English, a few in French) that document the completion of various research projects sponsored by the TDC between 1995 and 1997. There are also two files that relate to railway-related projects occurring between 1982-1997.

Boxes 3-4 consist of final reports, evaulation forms, and other documentation relating to Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) trials conducted by the TDC between 1989-1992. ELT trials, as they were called, were evaluations to see whether or not a particular device placed on private aircraft was superior to others in use. Note that ELT trial files include the following information: Aircraft mark, type of aircraft, name of participant, and location of aircraft.
