Interview of G.L. Miller, former Chief Forester of the New Brunswick Forest Service, recorded at his home in Fredericton, New Brunswick, by W.A. Reeks as part of a series of interviews with Canadian foresters for the Forest Management Institute's oral history of forestry in Canada. He speaks about such subjects as: his education; career development; early camp life; the lodge at Holmes Lake; early spruce budworm outbreaks and their impact on the lumber market; impressions of Tothill; Swaine and Craighead; the New Brunswick Forest Act of 1918; the organization of the New Brunswick Forest Service; fire prevention and standardization of equipment; impressions of H. W. Beall and J. G. Wright; fire hazard forecasting; the Bathurst experimental cutting area in 1919; the Salmon River experimental cutting area in 1924; the New Brunswick Forest Survey and Land Classification 1916-1923; forest management regulations; the Forest Insect and Disease Survey; federal responsibilities in spraying programs; and the future role of the Canadian Forestry Service. <65mn>
