General note:

The Communications Branch develops communication strategies to support departmental activities, conducts research and analysis and produces news releases, publications, surveys audio-visual presentations and advertising. The Branch is also responsible for the administration of the Thérèse Casgrain and Canada Volunteer (Lifestyle) Awards programs, which were created in 1979 to honour the contribution of Canadians from all provinces and territories to the improvement of the health and well-being of their fellow citizens.

These records consist of case files for both awards, arranged by type of award, name of recipient and their province/territory. They include nomination forms, announcements of the awards, biographies, correspondence regarding the award presentation and requests for more information.
