The records in this accession consist of Local Employment Assistance Program (LEAP) and Work Adjustment Training/Life Skills Program (WAT) case files created in Toronto, Ontario, between the years 1977-1982.
The Local Employment Assistance Program was designed to assist sponsoring individuals/groups in carrying out projects designed to create worthwhile employment for people who were unemployed and not likely to become employed through normal market activity. The Work Adjustment Training Program was designed to provide assessment of work attitudes, habits and potential, and adjustment for clients having difficulty in obtaining and retaining employment.
The programs subsidized employers to hire unemployed workers, thus providing them with both employment and job training skills. The files contain project applications and approval forms, financial and accounting information, cheque requisitions, trainee documentation, monitoring reports and internal notes and memos.
These documents were accessioned after the proclamation of the Access to Information and Privacy Acts and must be reviewed in accordance with the provisions of the legislation before they can be made available for research. Consult the Access Section if you wish to have this material reviewed.
