The records in this sub-series consist of 3 bound letterbooks from Philip Wodehouse, Commissioner of the Royal Navy at Halifax, Nova Scotia. The records document the activities in the Halifax Yard for the years 1812 to 1816, covering most of the period during which Great Britain and the United States of America were engaged in the War of 1812. The letterbooks include letters to and from Wodehouse, numbered orders to respective officers in Halifax Yard, and unnumbered orders to officers in Halifax Yard. The enclosed letters cover such matters as the movement of stores to the Great Lakes, the capture and survey of American ships; employment in the Yard; building and maintenance of the facilities in the Yard; payments for services rendered to the Royal Navy, and other related subjects.
