June 1, 1971 when the Federal Court Act came into effect the Trial Division of the Federal Court of Canada was given exclusive jurisdiction to hear and determine all appeals that, under the Canadian Citizenship Act could be taken to the Citizenship Appeal Court. This allowed the Federal Court to determine all appeals from final decisions where an applicant for Canadian citizenship was not granted a certificate of citizenship.

This series includes a docket and list of appeals which provide information regarding cases that were heard in the Court. A judgment book lists the judgments made by the Citizenship Appeal Court and states whether or not the appeal was granted or dismissed.

Custodial history:

The records of the Federal Court were maintained by Court Administrative Services (created in 2003). First records were transferrerd to Library and Archives Canada in 2012. Other records are still stored at Court Administrative Services.
