ADAMA, THE FULANI MAGICIAN, Adama Hamidou is a renowned deaf African dancer, comedian, street performer and practitioner of the ancient Yan-Taori magic tradition. He is a joyful pied piper, spreading wonder and delight among the people of Ouagadougou, Upper Volta. As a deaf man, Adama has found a unique, witty means of communication. Ritual and tradition unfold as Adama prepares himself for magic. But this is not a detached, anthropological study; the film draws an intimate portrait of the man and his culture through both performance sequences and interviews in which Adama tells his own story in West African sign language. Adama's exuberance is infectious, his magical powers unforgettable.
