Television documentary series on the military campaigns of World War II. This program deals with the social, political and military backgrounds to the first great German conquests of western Europe, up to and including the fall of France. The following topics and events are covered: French pacifism and French politics of the times; the German-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact; the German invasion of Poland; French mobilization; the French occupation of the Saar; the Maginot Line; German psychological warfare; Home Defense and Defense Production; the Battle of Norway; the German invasions of the Netherlands, Belgium and France. The following noteworthy personalities are shown: Edouard Daladier, Premier of France, being welcomed back to France by a cheering Paris throng; Daladier welcoming Foreign Minister Anthony Eden of Great Britain; Premier Daladier delivering a speech; Daladier examinign the Maginot Line; German Foreign Minister Von Ribbentrop setting off to Moscow for the signing of the German-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact; French actor, Ferdanel, dressed in a military uniform, laughing; Joseph Kennedy, U.S. ambassador to Great Britain, speaking in London; John Kennedy, son of Joseph Kennedy, speaking in the United States; Paul Reynaud after his election as the new Premier of France; Col. Charles de Gaulle, dressed as a tank commander; Gen. Heinz Guderian of Germany delivering a speech; Guderian at some military functions. The following shots and scenes are shown: a pacifist speech at a French assembly; a nazi German military rally; Polish cavalry troops off to war; a mother, holding a weeping daughter in her arms, cries as a military train pulls out of the the train station with her husband; Soviet occupation troopers in Poland; a demolished beer hall where an attempted assassination of Hitler took place; French soldiers receiving a donation of soccer balls, a gift from a rich Briton; German paratroops assembling in an airfield hangar, taking orders and the leaving for their aircraft.
