Fonds consists of material relating to Warren Montabone's career, both as an amateur athlete and electrical engineer. Textual records include correspondence in the form of telegrams and letters, training notes, sporting programmes, Montreal Amateur Athletic Association documents, and brochures. Also included in the collection are photographs of various athletic events and competitions (e.g. 1924-1928 Summer Olympics), as well as content documenting fellow teammates, coaches, and international venues. The artwork documents his involvement with the design of lighting fixtures for the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa.

Warren Montabone, 1903-1999 : Born in 1903 in Grand Rapids, Michigan (United States), Warren Joseph Montabone (nicknamed "Monty") was a Canadian track & field athlete who competed in both the men's 110m and 400m hurdles.

He not only competed as a student athlete while at Loyola College in Montreal, but also ran for the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association (MAAA). Montabone participated at successive Summer Olympic Games in 1924 (Paris, France) and 1928 (Amsterdam, Netherlands). In 1925, he captured the Canadian record in the 110m hurdles event, which was only eclipsed in 1983, a record that stood for 58 years.

Following his athletics career, Montabone pursued electrical engineering, and later served as the first president (1944-1945) of the Ottawa section of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), a non-profit organization dedicated to the art and science of illumination.

Warren Montabone passed away in 1999 in Nepean, Ontario, Canada at the age of 96 years old.
