The index is organized alphabetically by location name and provides a cross reference to the land file number, the date range of the file, a lot and block number, and the Canada Land Survey register number; This accession is comprised of master negatives. This accession consists of master microfilm copies of the Land Management Division's land files for the Yukon created by the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs' Regional Office in Whitehorse. The files contain all correspondence and all information relating to cadastral lots in settlements and land parcels outside of settlements in the Yukon. Documents within the files could include releases and transfer agreements, receipts, applications to purchase land, descriptions of the lot, letters of patent, maps, and other related documents. Each file is identified with a unique file number, a lot and block number (if applicable), the location of the land, the date range for the file, and the latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates.
These files described here relate closely to the records described in accessions 1989-90/091 and 1989-90/093. While much of the information contained in these land files is duplicated in the headquarters central registry files, these files were created in the regional office of the department. As a result, they cover a much shorter time span and often contain more local information. They too, relate to records held in other RG 85 accessions. An index to cancelled and current leases and agreements of sale for index to cancelled and current leases and agreements ofsale for land in the N.W.T. and the Yukon is described under the entry for Series D.2.b. in the Records Description section of this inventory. Cancelled leases and agreements are located in accession 1986-87/103; Canada Land Survey plans, registers, and indexes are contained in accession 1986-87/158; accession 1988-89/082 contains group and settlement registers, Canada land Survey plans, and indexes.
