Series contains Brand's non-fiction prose writing, including essays, presentations and book-length exploration. In the first accession, the series is mainly comprised of manuscripts for The State of Racism written with Krisantha Sri Bhaggiyadatta and Bread Out of Stone (Coach House Press, 1994). Also included are conference papers and scholarly essays.

Second accession: early drafts of a lecture on poetry titled "Yet I Do Marvel." Later this speech was altered and delivered as the Ralph Gustafson Distinguished Poets Lecture Series given by Brand as Gustafson Chair of Poetry at Malaspina University-College and published under the title A Kind of Perfect Speech.
