The Canadian Unity Council organized a symposium in December 1977 which founded the Pre-Referendum Committee, an alliance of federalist groups and political parties to coordinate support for the federal option in the Quebec referendum. The committee's name was changed in late 1978 to the Pro-Canada Committee and a Pro-Canada Foundation was created to coordinate fundraising. The series consists of the minutes of the Pro-Canada Committee (and its predecessor committee), reports on its activities, records of fundraising, financial statements, legal opinions, general regulations, and general correspondence. The latter primarily comprises correspondence of the chairs of the committee, successively Claude Castonguay and Michel Robert, including correspondence with political figures like Claude Ryan and Rodrigue Biron, among others. The series also contains documentation of the cessation of the committee's activities in 1981. There is a small amount of material related to an earlier alliance, the Pro-Canada Association, from 1968 to 1971.
