Becoming alive, she crawls up the sloping sand, presses through thick foliage, and crawls along a table top (people seated on either side, as if at a banquet, talk animatedly without noticing her). At the far end a chess game is in progress. She becomes a player. The pieces move themselves. A piece falls off into a rock pool and is swept down over smooth rocks to the sea.
