Accession consists of litigation files from the Department of Justice's litigation registry. Litigation files were organized into four types. "A"-prefix files deal with general lititgation. "B"-prefix files deal with land cases, including property disputes. "C"-prefix files deal with petitions of rights (statements of claims). "D"-prefix deal with litigation disputes in Quebec. The contents of the files consist of correspondence, memoranda, legal documents such as Releases, and statements of expenditures from Justice and other departmental staff as well as lawyers in private practice.

In this accession, boxes 1-88 contain "A" files, from the years 1884-1936; boxes 88-90 contain "B" files from 1906-1940; boxes 90-136 contain "C" files from 1904-1918; and box 136 contains files from 1931-1933.

Note: Not all files from this accession are included; this is only a partial set.
