The Personnel Services Branch (variously cited as Personnel Services Branch, Personnel Branch, Personnel and Management Services Branch in departmental annual reports since 1984) is responsible for the department's personnel relations - human resources, classification, pay, staff relations and employee services. In addition, it looks after the department's official languages plan, language training and affirmative action programme.
In 1985-86 the Branch comprised three divisions: Operations (Staffing and Classification) Division created 1 October 1984, Staff Relations and Compensation Division and Human Resources Division. In 1984-85 this Branch had a staff of 39 employees.
These central registry files deal with many aspects of the Branch's work including classification and establishment policy decisions concerning the Branch itself as well as other units of Labour Canada.
