Television interview and entertainment programme series devoted to the discussion and the showing of motion pictures. In this programme, we are shown the NFB film, "Self Portrait", 'an interim report on some aspects of creative development, 1939-1960' (Pt. 1). Also an interview is held with Tom Daly about his career at the National Film Board, with focus on the "fledgling" days, and his work as a director of WWII films. "Self Portrait... (Pt. 1) "deals with the creation of the NFB (in sketchy detail), but shows the viewer numerous clips of some of the NFB's mosti mpressive productions of the early period. Also interviewed are film makers Grant Munro and Robin Spry. In part 4 of the programme, Elwy Yost, introduces the following topics: the Challenge For Change program; the French production division at the Board; John Grierson, found Commissioner of the NFB, and animated film production. Interviews are held with: Anne-Marie Poirier, and Leonard Forest, French-Canadian film makers at the NFB; CLoin Low, an NFB producer; Grant Munro, an animator at the Board. A variety of clips from NFB films of the post-1960's period are shown. In part 5, Elwy Yost talks to Lorraine Monk, executive producer of the National Film Board, Still Photography Division, about the aims and successes of the Division. Ms. Monk discusses both NFB photography books, "A Year of the Land" and "Between Friends". NFB Commissioner, André Lamy, explains the aims and the role of the National Film Board, and points out the priorities of his organization. "Propaganda Message" and "Energy Carol", both animated films, are shown. In part 6, excerpts of "Energy Carol", and "Volcano, An Inquiry Into The Life and Death of Malcolm Lowry". Interviews are held with: André Lamy and Tom Daly. Finally most of the film "Grierson" is shown as well, along with some additional comments on the founder of the NFB. <6h>
