Using the medium of graphics and photography only, this documentary provides a record of the involvement of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals (RCCS) in establishing a radio system for the Northwest Territories and the Yukon (NWT and Y), which was recommended to the government by squadron leader R.A. Logan, Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), after his visit to the Arctic in 1922. Scenes include: the RCCS workshop including radio equipment designed and built for the NWT and Y Radio System; outlets provided at Dawson City, Mayo, Fort Smith on the Slave and Herschel Island in Mackenzie Bay; loss of Herschel supplies in the Arctic ice in 1924 forced a change to Aklavik in the Mackenzie Delta; Brigadier-General A.G.L. McNaughton, Lieutenant Colonel E. Forde, O.S. Finnie, Director of the NWT Branch of the Department of the Interior; S.S. Princess Louise, the Inside Passage, Skagway, view of Taku Glacier, Reid vs Soapy Smith's grave; Whitehorse, down the Yukon; Major W.A. Steel, Sergeant S.C. Heath, Sergeant C.C. May, Sgm. M.W. Whalen; Group on the S.S. Dawson, Sergeant W.W. Lockhart, Lieutenant H.E. Taber, Sgm. H.A. Lamb, and Corporal C.L. Routh; up the Stewart River, McQuesten Gravel Bar, Steward Rapids, the Benets, and Mayo, Yukon Territory (Y.T.); Mayo Station, unloading stores, antenna system; visit to Keno Mines; Stewart City Telegraph Station and RCMP headquarters; Don Dewitt on Government Pole Line; Dawson City, Yukon, RCMP barracks; Dawson Radio Station; return to Whitehorse via Pelly Crossing, The Trail, Yukon Crossing and Whitehorse Taxi; new Mayo Station; the Mackenzie System: in 1925, stations were erected along the Mackenzie Route from Aklavik to Edmonton; Lieutenant H.A. Young's party reached Herschel in June 1924 but the loss of the Lady Kindersley forced them to winter there, where the HBC, RCMP and Mission, kindly provided food and shelter; Aklavik Station, the Eskimos (Inuit) transport and Chief's family, boat crew and dog team; Fort Simpson Station, Lieutenant R.A.H. Galbraith, aerial view and general activities of accommodation, erecting towers, canoe repairs and local transport; Simpson Indian (Indigenous) School, children outside school; Treaty Indians (Indigenous) outside radio station waiting for Treaty money; Fort Smith Station, Lieutenant R.S. Hastings, Hudson's Bay fur shipment; and Edmonton, Alberta, Base Station, Lieutenant W.L. Laurie. <36mn 40s>
