This accession consists of a representative sample of case files documenting appeals brought before and decided by the Immigration Appeal Board between 1973 and 1980. The files contain copies of records from Immigration Branch Case files and elsewhere submitted as evidence for the appeal; organizational correspondence and forms relating to the appeal procedure; formal transcripts of hearings in the appeal, with exhibits where presented; and the final Reason for Decision. Boxes 1 and 2 contain blue and orange files for cases heard in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver in the period 1973-1977. Box 2 also contains red files (appeals under specified sections of the Immigration Appeal Board Act) and yellow files (refugee claims appeals) for Montreal and Vancouver cases, 1979-1980. Some files in the groups dated 1975-1980 were indexed (or considered for indexing and rejected) in the IAB "Precedents" collection. Those accepted for indexing were generally also reported. Files so considered and those so indexed are marked by an orange index sheet in the file.
