The film starts with a series of inter-titles; “It was the mightiest task that ever a community was called upon to face, and it was a might endeavour that resulted at last in a victory that was justified…”; “The years of fierce struggle had tested the endurance of both sides almost beyond measure, but the passing of time only intensified Britain's determination to fight towards a triumphant issue.”; …And when victorious British troops marched through the streets, the whole civilised humanity must have heard the echo of the glad shouts and happy acclamations of the populace.”; “The whole might of Britain's Arms was concentrated with an over-whelming force, upon one visible objective.”; “The barrage is helped by French 75's.” The film continues with shots of French artillery loading and firing a cannon on the front line. “The shell fire, both on the outskirts of and within Lens, was incessant.” Shots of explosions in the distance. Cut to battleships at sea firing cannons. “With a deafening thunder the guns belched forth their challenge, and not in vain, for now the time came when the offensive, in all its phases, was bringing the great struggle to an end.” The film ends with shots of the battleship cannon's firing.
