Documentary footage of the Munro North Pole Sky Dive Expedition of 1969. A Guinness record was set by Canadian Ray Munro in 1969, who made a parachute jump from a static line onto the Arctic Ocean, 21 Nautical miles off "True North". Expedition team members include Willie Phipps?, pilot and navigator; Jasper Lafrance, co-pilot; Norman Jones and Raymond Munro, parachutists. Footage includes: Parachutists Norman Jones and Raymond Munro interviewed by members of the press at Montreal Ariport, and entering aircraft; aerials of northern Ungava and Hudson Strait; interior of the aircraft with the crew and expedition members; aerial of the base; interior shots of men at work; the exterior and interior of the aircraft; airport with the Nordair liner on the tarmac; Frobisher Bay airport with the Nordair DC-3 and other aircraft, where a blizzard trapped the crew for days; checking weather forecast in the weather office; "midnight sun" shining into the plane; Atlas Aviation aircraft at Resolute Bay airport, Resolute, NWT (Nunavut); airplane with bad engine removed; installing a new plane engine at 54 degrees below zero; visiting military surgeon training Norman Jones with a lesson in tracheotomy performed on "volunteer patient", Ray Munro; and shots of supplies scattered at the base, young Eskimos (Inuit), and sled dogs; airborne to Eureka and Nansen Sound on approach to Eureka; Munro asleep; glaciers on Ellesmere Island; refueling at Eureka airstrips; pressure ridge in ice; Alert, most northerly habitation; crew members in parkas; loading gear; landscape from 7000 feet off northern Ellesmere Island; 50 degrees below freezing inside cabin while dressing and preparing for parachute jump; aerial view of North Pole from 10,000 feet; and Munro planting flags. <14mn>
