Murat Kurnaz, a German Muslim, was arrested in Pakistan shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks and sent to Guantanamo prison. There he endured “enhanced interrogation techniques” for five years without trial. Judge Advocate Diane Beaver was an US Army officer who gave legal advice to the authorities of Guantanamo about acceptable interrogation techniques. When the US Government had to face accusations of torture in the prison, the blame fell on her. Meanwhile, Judge Advocate for the Navy Matt Diaz followed his conscience and leaked the top-secret list of the Guantanamo prisoners. He was sentenced to six months of imprisonment and lost his job.
