A policeman is present and a chase ensues. It would appear that a man has stolen food. The man being chased by the policeman runs to a house where his mother and two children (a boy and a girl) live. The man is found guilty and sentenced to hang in court. The mother goes to the Governor to seek a pardon, but is refused. She returns home and sends the two children to see the Governor.
