Sound recording of: two live broadcasts from the Imperial Dining Room, Royal York Hotel, Toronto, by Moxie Whitney and his orchestra with featured vocalists Irene Hall and Ralph Richards; political commentary. In the music broadcasts, Whitney introduces the compositions and musicians.~The New Year's Eve broadcast of 31 December 1958 is on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio network. Included are performances of: Everybody Loves a Lover; If Dreams Came True; medley (including: Remember Me); Tea for Two Cha Cha Cha; Return to Me; The Night They Invented Champagne, from the motion picture Gigi; When They Bring the New Year In, composed by Torontonian Roy Montgomery; medley (including: There's Yes Yes in Your Eyes; When You're Smiling).~The other Whitney orchestra broadcast is on radio station CFRB. The recording ends before the completion of the broadcast. Included are performances of: medley (Say It with Music; All of Me; Tiptoe Through the Tulips); Patricia; It's All in the Game; Wolverine Blues. Included is an incomplete conversation between Whitney and Gretchen Wyler, whose night club act is currently appearing at the Imperial Dining Room.~Also included is political commentary by unidentified male speakers, focussing on federal farm and trade policy and criticising the Diefenbaker government from a Liberal perspective. <55mn 32s>

Recording begins with the CBC New Year's Eve broadcast heads out on both channels at 19 cm/sec. It then continues with the CFRB broadcast heads out on one channel at 9.5 cm/sec.; on the other channel in this section of the tape is the political commentary, tails out at 19 cm/sec.
