The Canadian Sports Pool Corporation came into existence as a result of the passage by parliament of the Athletic Contests and Events Pools Act (29-30-31-32 Elizabeth II C.161 assented to 29 June 1983). During 1984 Sports Pool operated a weekly pool on professional baseball games called Sport Select with a minimum prize pool of 50,000 weekly. The last Sport Select pool ended 30 september 1984. Sports Pool had offices in 14 Canadian cities including Ottawa, Ontario from which office these records are taken. The Ottawa office served as the corporate headquarters of Sports Pool for the first months of the corporation's existence although later this designation was given to the Montreal office. These records contain documents pertinent to the development of the Sports Pool concept as well as the passage of the Athletic Contests and Events Pools Act through parliament. Also included are copies of executive minutes and background papers as well as material on Sports Pool media advertising and coverage.

In October 1984 the federal government announced its intention to dissolve the Canadian Sports Pool Corporation and in November 1984 a bill to that effect was introduced in the House of Commons by sports minister Otto Jelinek.
