Coverage of the proceedings of the Supreme Court case, Figueroa v. Canada (Attorney General). In 1993, the Communist Party of Canada lost its status as a registered political party in Canada under the Canada Elections Act (1995, 1993). The Act specifies that a party must have candidates in 50 electoral districts to register. Members of registered political parties enjoy privileges, including tax receipts for their financial donations and display of a candidate's party on electoral ballots. On behalf of the Communist Party of Canada (CPC), Miguel Figueroa, the Appellant, went to court to challenge the ruling, citing the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.~Lawyers: Peter Rosenthal and Kikelola Roach (for the Appellant); Roslyn J.
