This series consists of correspondence, reports, notes, informational material, press releases, party manuals and guide books and some press clippings. It sets out Murray's role in managing the PC election campaign and preparation for 1985, in the shaping of policy and in fund-raising. There is material on general election planning. There are records reflecting the very important leadership issue and, the convention of 1983 and Mulroney's ascent to PC Party leader in 1983 (there is correspondence with Joe Clark on this issue as well). This series captures the use of electoral polling research, in which area the PC party had long lagged behind the Liberals. The series shows how Murray directed work in the regions and the provinces, and work with the PC youth organizations. In short, this series is instrumental to understanding the processes by which the PC Party set aside Joe Clark as leader, selected Brian Mulroney and went on to a great electoral victory in 1985. There is significant commentary and marginalia in this series, as well as personal notes made by Murray reflecting his observations.
