SAVIOUR OF CEYLON is a documentary about Leonard Joseph Birchall, a Royal Canadian Air Force pilot who warned of an impending attack on Ceylon by Japanese forces. For this, Winston Churchill dubbed him the “Saviour of Ceylon”.Birchall's plane was shot down over the Indian Ocean and he was captured by the Japanese. The documentary brings to life Birchall's harrowing three years in POW camps and the controversy surrounding the war crimes trials in which he participated. <47mn 10s>
