This accession consists of records from a Correctional Services Canada Special Operating Agency known as CORCAN. Records include the mandate, charter document, reports, contracts, work descriptions as well as documents related to meetings, conferences, policy, accountability, work planning and program review, etc.

The creation of CORCAN as a Special Operating Agency of Correctional Services Canada (CSC) was announced by Treasury Board in February 1991. CORCAN's mandate is to provide employment training and skills to offenders in federal correctional facilities. CORCAN and its' inmate employees produce agricultural commodities and manufactures and sells a variety of goods under the following business lines: manufacturing, agribusiness, construction, services and textiles. The majority of products are used by CSC; however, there are some marketed to Canada's public sector.
