Speaking after the 1962 Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference, MacMillan talks about Britain's possible entry into the European Common Market. MacMillan gives brief histories and description of the Commonwealth and the Common Market, arguing that they are different types of organizations and that Britain may belong to both; gives his government's reasons for wanting to join the Common Market, economic and historical; and points out that the decision will ultimately fall to the British people. Also of note, the PM jokes, "After All, We're Independent Too." Footage shows MacMillan at a desk with slow zooms in and out. The speech is framed by graphics announcing the Prime Minister and showing the time. An announcer introduces MacMillan after the tail end of a weather forecast. <17mn>Subjects:COMMON MARKETS~COMMONWEALTH CONFERENCES~GREAT BRITAIN~PRIME MINISTERS~COMMONWEALTH OF NATIONS~EUROPEAN ECONOMIC COMMUNITY~MACMILLAN, HAROLDLanguage:EnglishOriginal number:LCB 12482Notes:Detailed holdings information: -
