Accession consists largely of textual records, with some photo, video and audio records as well. The fonds documents the political career of Senator Lowell Murray from his early political activist days at St. Francis Xavier University in the 1950s, through his work as a Progressive Conservative Party insider throughout the 1960s and 1970s and into the 1980s. The fonds then documents very richly Murray's association with Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, when Murray was Leader of the Government in the Senate and a member of the Mulroney Cabinet in the 1980s and 1990s, and closes with his work as a Senator throughout the 1990s and the first decade of the twenty-first century.
