The Bureau on Aging became operational in the fall of 1978 as the focal point within the department identifying and keeping abreast of issues related to aging and the aged. Through its contacts with individuals and organizations, the Bureau ensures the cooperation of the various elements of the department concerned with aging and the needs of senior citizens. The activities of the bureau, therefore, are patterned to facilitate the development of policies, legislation, and programs to improve the health and social well-being of this group.
