Transport Canada, in addition to its three major administrations (air, marine and surface), has an executive secretariat which is responsible for transportation matters that do not fall exclusively into any one of the major operational areas. The secretariat includes the Office of the Deputy Minister and offices responsible for strategic planning and policy, research and development, intergovernmental relations, intermodal transportation systems, policy review, finance and personnel.
The records in this accession reflect some of the activities of the Executive Secretariat such as the following: the work of departmental committees on a variety of matters including metric conversion, microfilming, strategic planning and air cushion vehicles; northern transportation; and legislation administered by the department.
