THESE RECORDS RELATE TO THE WORK OF THE FAIR EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES BRANCH WHICH WAS SET UP IN 1966-1967 TO ADMINISTER THE CANADA FAIR EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES ACT (PROHIBITED DISCRIMINATION IN HIRING PRACTICES BASED ON RACE, COLOUR, CREED OR NATIONAL ORIGIN IN ALL AREAS OF WORK WITHIN FEDERAL JURISDICTION) AND THE FEMALE EMPLOYEES EQUAL PAY ACT (REQUIRED THAT WOMEN BE GIVEN THE SAME RATE OF PAY AS MEN FOR DOING THE SAME WORK). A SUBSTANTIAL PORTION OF THESE RECORDS CONSISTS OF CASE FILES ON COMPLAINTS FILED WITH THE BRANCH.
