News conference held by Shirley Carr, Canadian Labour Congress representative for four postal unions, and by Jean-Claude Parrot, head of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. In a bilingual opening statement they speak of: the deterioration of postal service; violations of the Canada Post Corporation's mandate by senior management; a meeting with Michael Warren, President of Canada Post; the 5-year plan; placing blame on employees for poor postal service; the low priority of health and safety problems; poor industrial labour relations; serious differences in the treatment of ordinary citizens and corporations with respect to mail delivery and poor management at Canada Post. In a question period, the following issues are discussed: violation of Canada Post's mandate; changes in criteria for postal delivery; problems arising from making self-sufficiency the number one priority; the history of joint action by Post Office unions; reaction of André Ouellet, former Postmaster General, to postal workers' troubles; mail delays; dissatisfaction with Michael Warren's policies; the role of the CLC relating to the common front of postal unions; violations of the collective agreement by management and reasons for the low morale among postal employees. <30mn>
