The Resource and reference material series comprises various document formats, such as clippings, reproduction prints, publications including magazines or magazine excerpts and small "how-to" art publications, and instructional art books. The material reflects an interest in The Group of Seven, popular Canadian artists, museology and colour theory and printing techniques. In addition to sometimes being teaching resource material, these items constitute a visual imagery resource collection, compiled and used by the artist in her artistic and professional life.
Publications include complete copies and excerpts from magazines, and small brochures, instructional art books and booklets. Among them are some: published by Winsor and Newton Ltd. ca. 1934-1935; the Munsell Color Co. Inc., 1935, ca. 1941; the Department of Education of Ontario, ca. 1927-1930; how-to art books from the Walter Foster Art Service, Laguna Beach California, ca. 1920-1950; the American Home Library Series, New York, ca. 1930-1945; McCall Corporation Annual, New York, ca. 1950. Other titles are: Good Housekeeping, n.d.; Life Magazine 1944-1960; Harper's Monthly Magazine, 1888; Modern Art Collector, 1916; and Ladies Home Journal pages, 1910-1927.
Larger clippings from newspapers and magazines: sources include: The Toronto Star Weekly/Star Weekly Toronto, 1927-1960; New World Illustrated, n.d.; The Studio, n.d.; Maclean's Magazine, 1947; The Chatelaine 1928; l'Illustration Journal; and The New York Times, 1926. A set of very small clippings and reproductions from mostly unidentified sources was originally kept by the artist in a Hoosier file, and in at least one home-made file jacket. These small clippings have been arbitrarily arranged by subject in subject files arranged alphabetically; see file 19 and sub-components.
In addition there is a handful reproductions of artworks from unknown sources, possibly calendars or other popular culture print sources; they were likely inspirational images kept for their artistic merit possibly used in study or teaching and they include reproductions after: Joseph Purcell, Otto Jacobi, Lucius O'Brien, Cornelius Krieghoff, James Wilson Morrice and others.
