NATIONAL PRESS THEATREAccession:1982-0068Media:SoundPart:1 of 1Production date:1982-03-23Description:News conference held by Clarke Raymond, Executive Director of Programs for the Anglican Church of Canada; Monsignor Adolphe Proulx, Bishop of Hull and co-Chair of the Human Rights Commission of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops; Donald Ray, Secretary of the General Council of the United Church of Canada; Julia Esquivel of Guatemala, Guatemala Committee of Patriotic Unity and member of the Justice and Peace Commission; and Barbara Zerter of the comité chrétien pour les Droits humains en Amérique latine. Bilingual statements are delivered by Raymond, Proulx and Esquivel, aided by Zerter, to protest, in a united church front, Canadian government indifference to U.S. threats made towards Nicaragua and the Liberal government's failure to condemn human rights violations in El Salvador and Guatemala. Esquivel goes into some detail with respect to violations in her native Guatemala. A question period follows in which questions are fielded from assembled journalists. <49mn>Language:English / FrançaisNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
