Sound recording of solo piano recitals by Neil Chotem and William Pengelly broadcast on CBC Radio.~The Chotem recital comprises performances of works by Franz Liszt: Valse oubliée (incomplete, late start); Au bord d'une source; No. 47 of the Petrarch Sonnets to Laura [Benedetto sia'l giorno]; Waldesrauschen; Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12, in C sharp minor. An announcer introduces the works and the performer. The recital is preceded by unidentified spoken word in an unidentified language, and is followed by a fragments of a 1959 news broadcast, unidentified music, and spoken word.~The Pengelly recital includes performances of: Prelude and Fugue in E Minor, opus 35 (composed by Felix Mendelssohn); La terrasse des audiences du clair de lune (comp. Claude Debussy); Preludes Nos. 1 and 2, opus 38 (comp. Dmitry Kabalevsky); Piano Sonata No. 3 in F Major [opus 46?] (comp. Kabalevsky). 1. Other extent, physical details information: 1 audio reel : acetate, 2 sides, 7.5 ips ; 18 cm in diam.~2. The Chotem recital is tails out on one channel. The Pengelly recital is heads out on the other channel.~3. Chotem's comment on the audio reel box: "Much hum". There is a period of humming noise during his recital.~4. The audio reel box is marked "Hirvy", and this sound recording is one a group listed under the heading "Hirvy" in Chotem's classical index. It is possible that the recordings were made by, and received from, Chotem's teacher and friend Michel Hirvy.~5. Chotem gives the date "1952?" on the audio reel box for his own recital; however, the following 1959 news broadcast may also provide an indication of the date. The date of the Pengelly recital is not known.~6. The Chotem recital was broadcast on a Thursday as part of the series Concert Hall.~7. The Pengelly recital was produced at the CBC's Montreal studios and was broadcast on a Sunday.
