This series documents the activities of the Policy and Research Unit of the Office of the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, Prime Minister of Canada from November 1993 to December 2003. Specifically, it concerns the activities of Chaviva Hosek, director of the Policy and Research office.The Policy and Research office was in charge of developing and reviewing the legislative agenda of Jean Chrétien's Liberal government. It also analyzed, for the Prime Minister, key social, economic and environmental issues of the 1993-2003 period.

The series consists mainly of correspondence, briefing notes, memos, reports, studies, submissions to the Prime Minister's Office or other federal bodies, news releases, speeches, interview transcripts, press clippings, copies of articles, agendas and telephone notes.

The series is divided into six (6) sub-series: Subject Files sub-series (1985-2000), Correspondence sub-series (1993-2000), Invitations sub-series (1996-1997), Meetings with the Prime Minister sub-series (1996-2000), Agendas and Schedules sub-series (1994-2000), Telephone Books sub-series (1993-2000).

Conservation:

The records of this series are in excellent general condition, and robust measures were taken to preserve them: all metal pieces were removed, newspaper clippings were removed and replaced with photocopies, records in a fragile state of preservation were also photocopied, etc. Lastly, records were removed from their original folders and placed in acid-free folders.

The records of this series are in French and English.
