Elizabeth Gray interviews two residents of Belfast who are working for peace through the community services they provide: Protestant Billy Mitchell and Catholic Liam [Maskey]. In 1994, Mitchell heard about the counselling service [Maskey] was running for young Catholics and former prisoners. He approached him and they began to work together, in advance of the formal peace process. They speak about their lives and work. Mitchell recounts the story of his teenage daughter who was crying with relief, not long after the ceasefire, because for the first time it was safe enough to leave the front door unlocked. Before that attempts had been made on Mitchell’s life. Mitchell remarks that people should forgive, but not forget or the violence might be repeated. <14mn 25s>Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
