She describes the trouble she encountered trying to get a visa to go to Uzbekistan. It has been a year since she was there and there are fewer freedoms there now. Gray comments on the greater restrictions on journalists and other people. She cites the case of Abdurahim Pulatov, who helped to organize a human rights conference, was taken hostage by the Uzbek KGB, was sentenced to three years in prison for showing disrespect to the president of Uzbekistan, was pardoned and managed to get back to Moscow. She also describes the case of a woman news editor, who is also a Uzbek citizen, and who now needs bodyguards. A poet was imprisoned recently for writing a poem the president did not like. <5mn 54s>Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
