Sound recording of performances by Oscar Peterson (piano) and David (Dave) Young (bass), recorded at McClear Pathé Studios, Toronto, on 23 January 1995 as part of Young's recording project for the Justin Time label that featured him performing in duo with several leading jazz pianists. The recording is an unedited chronological record of the recording session. Included are multiple complete takes, incomplete takes, false starts, proposing and trying out compositions, pauses for the playback of recorded performances, the performance of an insert, and extensive studio talk as the musicians arrange the music and otherwise discuss and comment on its creation and realisation. Also present and involved in the studio talk is producer Jim West. The compositions performed are: OP & D (composed by Peterson); Younger Than Springtime; Goodbye Old Friend (Peterson); In a Mellow Tone; Hallelujah Time (one chorus only); Go Tell It on the Mountain (no complete take); Swing Low, Sweet Chariot (no complete take); unidentified waltz (no complete take); Where Do We Go from Here. <1h 52mn>

The cassettes are labelled "Oscar Peterson 1:1 Safety Copy".~3. The name of the bassist and the location of the recording session have been taken from the resulting commercial recordings (Piano-Bass Duets : Two By Two, Volume One; and Piano-Bass Duets : Side By Side, Volume Three).~4. The musicians clearly identify Goodbye Old Friend as a Peterson composition.
