In 1932, a Norwegian explorer claimed the land for Norway, despite the fact that the land had been granted to Canada. The Canadian Government decided to exert its sovereignty over the land and dispatched an RCMP detachment to lay claim to the land. From 1922 to 1933, a small group of RCMP officers went to Ellesmere and Devon islands in Canada's High Arctic to 'show the flag' against various claims by Norwegian, American and Danish interests. This program recounts the stories of the RCMP officers stationed on Ellesmere and how, in cooperation with the local Inuit population, they were able to enforce Canada's claim. <56mn 15s>Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
