Series comprises original artwork by Lynn Johnston relating predominantly to her career in cartooning and the syndicated cartoon strip "For Better or For Worse". Included are the great majority of original drawings for the daily strips, as well as a smaller number of Sunday panels, for the cartoon series, covering the publication years 1979-2012. Any missing originals were replaced by the For Better or For Worse team by reproductions so the entire run of the strip is available for research purposes. Additional art records include the original artwork for a 2009 publication entitled "Farley Follows His Nose" which Johnston illustrated for author and veterinarian Beth Cruikshank in which the Pattersons' family dog saves the day and a lost child; spot art and extra artwork for several of the published compilations of the strip such as the 20th anniversary book "The Lives Behind the Lines" and "Middle Age Spread"; originals for the small book project entitled "I Love My Grandpa"; original drawings and colour acetate overlay for a large number of greeting cards featuring the Patterson family; cover artwork for some of the publications, notably calendars; some limited edition prints of Sunday panels; a small number of unfinished or rejected strips; early examples of Johnston's graphic work including original illustrations for a televised program on Global TV featuring watercolours of certain hockey players; and a few large promotional panels used at book-signings and product trade shows. Also included are a small number of dolls relating to the characters April, Becky, Edgar and Ned.

Selected items from a 1991 donation were exhibited in 1993-1994, in a one-person show, at the then Canadian Museum of Caricature, Ottawa.
