Profile of Canadian film pioneer Roy Tash, featuring interviews, photographs, newsreel footage, clippings and voice over. The film begins with an interview of Roy Tash who demonstrates the use of the hand crank camera and reminisces about his debut in motion picture film as a sweep up boy and projectionist in a Chicago theatre. First on the scene at the Eastland excursion boat disaster, Tash’s newsreel footage won him a position with Pathé News. Additional interviews feature friends, colleagues and family including Robert Rouvery, CSS, Bette Barrett (née Tash) and Ken Post, CSC, who candidly remember their experiences with Tash. Footage also records photographs of Tash with famous people, and newsreel footage shot by Tash including the filming of the Dionne Quintuplets, Sir Wilfrid Laurier’s funeral, Winston Churchill, the Queen Mother, governors-general, and Canadian prime ministers and premiers. The film ends with footage of Tash as he was inducted into Canada’s News Hall of Fame in 1982. <1h 2mn 13s>
